Curtain‑Wall Project of Shanghai Qingpu Wanda‑Mall

Located on Dianshan‑Lake Avenue, Qingpu District, Shanghai Qingpu Wanda‑Mall is a large‑scale culture‑tourism‑commercial complex directly connected to Metro‑Line‑17. As Wanda’s landmark Wanda‑Mall project in Shanghai, it covers a total construction‑area of around 450,000 ㎡, integrating shopping‑center, indoor children‑park, auto‑tech‑experience‑park, pedestrian‑street and office‑buildings. It has become a well‑known parent‑child leisure landmark in Yangtze‑River‑Delta and boosts urban‑integration development of Qingpu New‑Town. Inspired by the cultural‑theme of “blooming‑lotus beside Dianshan‑Lake”, the facade adopts smooth free‑form curved‑shape. The curtain‑wall system consists of arc‑shaped aluminum‑panels and LOW‑E insulated‑glass. The petal‑like undulating appearance perfectly combines local water‑town culture and modern‑commercial‑architecture aesthetics, forming a highly‑recognizable urban‑landmark.

This complex free‑form‑curtain‑wall project features massive curved facade‑panels and large‑cantilever structures. Major construction‑challenges include lofting‑fabrication of special‑shaped aluminum‑panels, high‑altitude positioning of cantilever keels, seamless joint‑installation of multi‑curved panels, waterproof‑sealing for high‑low‑span transition zones and lightning‑protection deployment. Situated in Yangtze‑River‑Delta with humid plum‑rain‑season and summer‑typhoon‑load, the curtain‑wall is specially calculated for high‑standard wind‑resistance, water‑tightness and air‑tightness requirements for large‑scale commercial‑buildings in Shanghai. Hot‑dip‑galvanization anti‑corrosion treatment is applied to primary‑secondary keels. Expansion‑joint structures of aluminum‑panels effectively release thermal‑expansion stress of large‑curved‑facade. LOW‑E energy‑saving insulated‑glass provides excellent heat‑insulation, noise‑reduction and daylighting‑performance for long‑term safe‑operation. BIM technology was adopted for layout‑simulation, clash‑detection and pre‑construction rehearsal to overcome technical difficulties of special‑shaped curved‑facade installation.

We undertook the integrated facade‑curtain‑wall construction, covering detailed‑design of curved aluminum‑panel‑wall and glass‑curtain‑wall, installation of post‑embedded‑plates, hoisting‑welding of vertical‑horizontal keels, lightning‑protection construction, mounting of LOW‑E insulated‑glass panels and arc‑decorative‑panels, weather‑resistant sealing‑work and waterproof‑reinforcement for curved‑corners, expansion‑joints and roof‑transition joints. Strict quality‑control was implemented on fabrication‑precision of special‑curved components, mounting‑quality of high‑altitude cantilever‑keels and waterproof‑details. We delivered high‑quality facade works and contributed to building a famous culture‑tourism commercial‑landmark of Qingpu New‑Town.
